I would also agree. Almost everyone I've ever met that has a Bimmer has it because of the "status" since it's an expensive car. I still laugh at the reactions I get when people ask me what kind of car I drive and I reply, "BMW." People immediately picture you in something like a $80,000 745Li. Little do they know that my car was a whole $1500. The name BMW has such a stigma associated with it in this country.

i hear ya, and lots of people think that along with a BMW you have to be a total prick. in bozeman i get a lot of stares for my car, but i if its ever in question i always let people go first at stop signs and stop at crosswalks. i honestly think of it as trying to give bmw a better name cause it really bugs me when people assume things about me cause of my car.

Exactly! Recently I watched a program about the NYPD on ABC network and they were doing a prostitution sting. The female officer disguised as a hooker appraoched two men who were in an early model e39 528i (what I'd estimate to be a late 90's [ 98', 99'] model) and it turned out they told her that her $20 asking price was too much for ___ __(oral sex) and offered her $10 to make it a done deal or $20 for both of them. So sure enough they get busted and she says to her colleagues "Could you believe it I busted two rich guys in a brand new $80,000 BMW and they told me $20 was too much for a __ ___ (oral sex). I cannot believe these rich people, If I had a nickle for everytime I heard them say "I pay your salary" I'd be rich." Keep in mind this was filmed in 2004, and the camera man focused on the roundel and 528i badge at least a handful of times for a few seconds each. Clearly that officer was clueless to the fact that the 528i was probably worth no more than half that amount at $45,000 brand new, and probably goes for under $12,000 on the market now if it's in good condition. People really need to drop the BMW IS VERY EXPENSIVE and for the rich only idealogy.

My favorite is when they get all high and mighty saying "How can you afford a BMW? You should be more reasonable and get a regular vehicle." all while their driving their 40K+ Yukon. This was my bosses response when I first got my car - I think he was about to cry when he found out I spent less on my car than he did on his "more practicle" suv.
